Conventional slate roofs have several different styles of installation, producing distinctive looks. The common trait amongst any traditional slate installation is that less than 40% of the material installed is actually visible. This makes for a very long term yet very heavy roof system, up too 3000 lbs per square (100 square feet). The TruSlate system typically average 550 lbs per square, 5.5 lbs per square foot.
Due to the weight load of traditional slate roof systems, additional structural modifications are required on many structures that were not specifically built for bearing such loads. This brings the price of a slate roof installation higher, hence placing it out of reach, or no longer desirable for many property owners.
Finally a modern slate roof solution, TruSlate 2.0 Roofing System.
The difference from traditional, heavy, expensive and difficult to install slate systems, is in the method of installation. This system requires far less material, no holes drilled through the slate, and provides a 75 year warranty.
No nails are driven through the slate, coupled with the fact the slate is installed on the roof from the top down, nearly eliminates breakage during installation which is inherent for a traditionally installed slate roof. Less waste, equals lower cost.
The TruSlate system incorporates a batten system featuring 304 stainless steel hangers and real slate.
The 304 hangers are spring hardened for additional strength with a baked on coating, engineered to hold with winds up to 179 MPH (ASTM E 330-97).
The Texas Department of Insurance has evaluated TruSlate and has determined that the 2.0 System is acceptable for roofing applications in designated catastrophe zones along the Texas Gulf Coast when installed in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions. The 2.0 System was also approved for High Velocity Hurrican Zones (HVHZ) in Florida (Florida approval number FL5429) |
